Creating a list of standard formats

You need to specify the standard formats for questions requiring text, numeric and date/time data responses. These formats will be used by yourself when creating questions within the library and also by the study designer when creating new questions in the Study Definition module. At data entry, the question answer will be displayed and validated in line with the standard format adopted for the question.

Note that changes to standard formats will only be reflected in the Study Definition module after the Library Management module has been closed.

Select Parameters > Standard Formats. The Standard Data Format window is displayed.
Select a data type from the drop down list. You have a choice of Text, Integer Number, Real Number and Date/Time.

Enter the new format into the text field to the right of the drop down list. The format must use characters from the following list:

9	Use 9 to indicate a numerical digit with leading zeroes displayed. For example, if the format is 999, entering 36 will result in 036 being displayed.
#	Use # to indicate a numerical digit without leading zeroes being displayed. For example, if the format is ###, entering 36 will result in 36 being displayed. 9 and # may be used together. For example, if the format is #99, entering 8 will result in 08 being displayed.
.	Use a full stop to indicate a decimal point. For example, ##9.99
,	Use a comma as a thousands separator. For example, 9,999
A	Use A to indicate a letter. A format can include both letters and digits. For example, AA999
h:m:s	Use h to indicate hours, m to indicate minutes and s to indicate seconds. Use a colon as a time separator. For example, hh:mm:ss
d/m/y	Use d to indicate days, m to indicate months and y to indicate years. Use a forward slash as a date separator. For example, dd/mm/yyyy

Click Insert to accept the new format, or Exit to close the window without saving your work.
