Using FILTER

The FILTER section of the Query module enables you to create simple and complex filters in order to specify the responses to be included in your query. Before you do this, you must have selected the questions you wish to use.

Suppose you want to look at your chosen questions only for women who are over 180 centimetres in height.

The filter you need is sex = female AND height > 180.

The steps below show one way of achieving this.

1.	In Band Type ensure [AND] bands is selected.
2.	Click New
3.	In Band No. type in 1
4.	In Operand select sex
5.	In Operator select =
6.	In Criteria select 1-Female
7.	Click Add
8.	Click New
9.	In Band No. type in 1
10.	In Operand select height
11.	In Operator select >
12.	In Criteria type in 180
13.	Click Add

Suppose you want to look at your chosen questions for volunteers over 180 centimetres in height or under 85 kg in weight.

The filter you need is height > 180 [OR] weight < 85.

The steps below show one way of achieving this.

1.	In Band Type ensure [OR] bands is selected.
2.	Click New
3.	In Band No. type in 1
4.	In Operand select height
5.	In Operator select >
6.	In Criteria type 180
7.	Click Add
8.	Click New

Suppose you want to look at your chosen questions for women who are over 180 cm in height or men who are over 190 cm in height.

The filter you need is sex = female AND height > 180 OR sex = male AND height > 190.

The filter you need is height > 180 OR weight > 90 AND smoker = yes OR blood pressure = high.
