Some questions cannot be answered by the data entry user but instead are automatically filled in based on answers given elsewhere. These are known as derived questions and are created by the study designer. For example, subject details which appear on every eForm are usually derived from information given at the start of the study.

Derived questions cannot be changed except by altering the answers to the questions that were used to create the derivation. Right click the question status icon and select Question Information to view the derivation condition in the Question Properties window. Derivation conditions can range from a simple question to a complex formula.
By default, if a warning validation fires for a derived question, the warning icon will display but you will not see the associated warning message. You can switch on warning messages for derived responses via Tools > Options > eForm.
