The BV log file is a text file which reports the results of the batch revalidation. By default, it contains all visit and eForm details for subjects which have been revalidated whether or not any changes have been made as a result of revalidation. If you have selected Log changes only, it will only report the eForms for which changes have been made.
The validation log file stores information in three categories:
At the start of the file, you will see:
The title, date and time of the revalidation report
The name of the user
The name of the database
Report mode
Save mode
Name of single eForm (if selected)
Automatic Freeze/Lock settings
For each subject, you will see:
The subject’s identifier as Study/Site/ID (Label)
The time at which the subject revalidation started
A list of all the items that were automatically unfrozen or unlocked before revalidating
A list of all the items that were automatically refrozen or relocked after revalidation
Notification of subject registration number (if registration occurred as a result of revalidation)
A summary of how many eForms were changed, and a list of the visit/eForm specifiers of the changed eForms.
If another user is currently editing the study definition, the subject will not be revalidated and you will see a message giving the name of the user who is editing the study.
If the subject’s Label, DOB or Gender has changed, you will see a message giving the new values.
If you have not selected Log changes only you will see a list of all the visits for the subject, and for each visit which is revalidated, a list of the non-empty eForms in the visit. If you have selected Log changes only you will only see visits and eForms in which something has changed.
For each eForm, you may see any number of messages of the following types, representing the changes to questions since the eForm was last saved. The question identifier is always included in the message.
Message |
Displayed if |
Question status has changed |
A question now has a different status from that stored in the database. For example, a new warning has been generated, an existing warning has changed, or a blank question has been changed to or from Optional. The new status, and any associated validation message, is shown. |
Question value has changed |
A derived question has been recalculated. The new value is shown. |
Question value rejected |
An existing question value has been rejected. |
Question value has become blank |
The value of a derived question has been recalculated and is now blank. |
eForm label changed |
The eForm label has been recalculated and has changed from its previous value. |
New response created for question |
A new question has been added to the eForm since the eForm was last saved. |
Question enabled |
A question’s 'Collect if' condition has changed from False to True. |
Question disabled |
A question’s 'Collect if' condition has changed from True to False. |
A visit or eForm will not be revalidated if it is frozen or locked, or contains no data, or has the status Not Available.
An eForm will not be revalidated if another user is editing the eForm in the Data Entry module. You will see a message giving the name of the user editing the eForm.
An eForm will not be saved if it has a missing visit or eForm date (for example if the date has been rejected due to a new or changed validation). You will see a line in the log file saying that the eForm could not be saved.
If no eForms were changed, you will see a message saying that no changes were made.
You will see the time at which revalidation finished for the subject.
