When answering a question that requires a numerical entry, bear in mind the following points:
If a format has been specified for this question, it will be displayed in a tooltip when you hover the mouse over the question field. This displays the maximum number of digits that can be entered. Digits exceeding this limit will be ignored.
The format can include the following indicators:
9 |
A numerical character must be used in the position occupied by 9 and leading zeroes will be displayed. For example, if you enter 36 with a format of 999, you will see 036 displayed. |
# |
A numerical character must be used in the position occupied by # and the leading zeroes will not be displayed in the number field after validation. For example, if you enter 36 with a format of ###, you will see 36 displayed. |
#9 |
Numerical characters can be used in the positions occupied by # and 9. Leading zeroes will not be displayed for characters in the positions occupied by #. For example, if you enter 36 with a format of ##999, you will see 036 displayed. |
#9.9# |
Decimal numbers can be entered with this format. If you enter more decimal places than are in the format, the number will be rounded to the specified number of decimal places. For example, if you enter 3.147 with a format of #9.9# you will see 3.15 displayed. |
-99.99 |
A negative number may be entered where there is a minus sign in front of a format. For example, if you enter -3.6 with a format of -99.99 you will see -03.60 displayed. |
You must enter decimal separators in the format specified in the web browser language settings (not machine regional settings). Note that previously entered responses to number questions will always be displayed according to your current settings, regardless of the settings at the time of entry.
If a unit of measurement has been defined, it will be displayed in brackets to the right of the question, unless the study designer prefers to place it to the right of the question field without brackets. See example
