Hiding a question

Hiding a question means that it still exists on an eForm, but cannot be seen or answered by the data entry user. Both question caption and entry field are hidden.

When you hide a question, you are only hiding it on one specific eForm. It will still be displayed on any other eForms on which it has been placed.

A hidden question is still included in reports, in data browser and Data Reporter searches, and when printing an eForm. If you wish to completely hide a question from a particular user role, you should place it on an eForm that is controlled by an eForm access rule.

A hidden question is always visible on the eForm in the Study Definition module.

You may choose to hide derived questions which the data entry user does not need to see. You may also choose to hide questions that are no longer needed as once a study status has been to set to Open, you cannot remove questions from an eForm.

Ensure that any hidden questions are set to be optional. Data entry users cannot see hidden questions and so will not answer them. If a hidden question is mandatory and unanswered, the status 'Missing' will be assigned to the eForm which will cause confusion if all visible questions have been answered.

Do not assign validations to hidden questions. A validation message being displayed for a question that the user cannot see will cause confusion.
