Restoring a remote site database

If the database at a remote site becomes unavailable due to loss, theft or damage to the site device (laptop, tablet etc) and no local backup is available or reliable, you can choose to rebuild the database on a new device. A new database is created and populated with all data that has been transferred to the server.

The restored database will not include any data changed at the site since the last data transfer session.

All types of subject data are included in a restored database except for registration details, which are only stored in the remote site database and not synchronised with the central server during data transfer sessions.

Restoring a database

Before starting, ensure that MACRO is installed and configured for remote data transfer on the new site device but do not create a security database. Also ensure that the site device is connected to the same network as the server.

  1. On the server machine, open the System Management module and select Database > Restore Remote Site Database. The Restore Remote Site Database window is displayed.

  2. Select the remote site.

  3. All studies at the site are automatically selected. You cannot restore individual studies.

  4. Click Create. The Create Database windows is displayed.

    1. Enter the details for the site and the SQL Server instance running on the site device. Click Test to test the connection.

    2. If the connection tests successfully, click Create. The new database is created on the site device.

  5. Click Restore to copy the study data to the new database. A confirmation message is displayed when the restore is complete.

  6. On the site device, open the System Management module and select Database > Register Database to register the newly created database.

  7. On the site device, open the Data Transfer module and select Configure... to complete the data transfer configuration settings. Full configuration details are available in the MACRO Installation guide.

The site device is now ready to be sent to the site location where data collection can continue in the normal way.
