Use this feature to collect subject data in a local database on a remote site device (laptop, tablet etc) and then transfer it to a central server when an internet connection becomes available. This process occurs in two stages:
Subject data is entered into a site database at the remote site via the Web Data Entry/Review module. All the usual data entry functionality is available. The data remains in the local site database until it is transferred.
Use the Data Transfer module to transfer data between the remote site device and the server. All data changed since the previous transfer session will be transferred. You do not have to specify which data to transfer. As well as subject data, other study data such as updated study and laboratory definitions, DCRs, SDVs, notes and freeze/lock data is transferred from the remote site to the server. Subject data containing Unicode characters can be transferred.

Transferred data cannot be imported into MACRO using the usual subject data import options in the System Management module; it must be done via the Auto Import module. Data is extracted from the compressed files and then imported into a database on the server.
Subject data that has been imported will display as read-only in the Web Data Entry/Review module on the central server to indicate that it cannot be edited.
As well as using the module, you can run Auto Import on the server via the command line, enabling you to schedule automatic data import sessions.

Subject data can only be edited at the site. It can be viewed in Web DE on the server but cannot be edited on the server.
Transfer sessions can only be initiated from the site. The server cannot connect to a site independently.
MI Messages and Lock/Freeze messages can be created at the site or the server, and will be synchronised during the data transfer process.
User details can be changed (new users, password changes, enabling, unlocking etc.) at the site or on the server, and will be synchronised during the data transfer process. Updates are completed before the MACRO login screen is presented.
The password policy cannot be changed at a remote site. Any changes to the password policy made on the server are transferred with the user details to the remote site.
If user details are changed both on the server and separately at a remote site during the same period between two data transfer sessions, the action performed on the server will take precedence.
Study definitions are transferred from server to site, but not from site to server.
A server may have connections to more than one site; each site may connect to a different database on the server.
Every new database (site or server) contains the default "rde" user, but all changes to the rde user (including password changes) are excluded from the data transfer process. This is for security reasons and means, for example, that a site user cannot change the rde password on the server.
Whenever you create or update a study definition or laboratory definition that is being used with remote data entry, you must distribute it to associated remote sites.
Full setup and configuration details can be found in the MACRO Installation Guide, available from the MACRO User Community website.
