Importing subject data

To import subject data, you need the 'Import subject data' permission. This feature has a database-wide scope.

Before attempting to import subject data, ensure that the correct study definition and site code(s) exist in the current database.
Select Tasks > Subject > Import/Import from 3.0. The Import Subjects window is displayed.

Select the .prd file that you wish to import. By default, subject data files exported from MACRO are stored in the Out Folder of the application folder.
Select the file and click 'Open'. If you are importing subject data that already exists in the database and the study status is set to 'In Preparation', you will be asked if you wish to overwrite it. If the study status is not 'In Preparation' you cannot overwrite subject data.

Warning: If you choose to overwrite, all existing data for the subject will be lost. This is final and cannot be reversed.
- Click 'Overwrite this subject' to overwrite the existing data for the subject identified in the message or click 'Overwrite for all' to overwrite all existing data.
- Click 'Ignore this subject' to retain the existing data in the current message or click 'Ignore for all' to retain all existing data.
- Click 'Show Details' to view the details of the subject identified in the message.
If you wish to check that the data has been successfully imported, open the list of subjects in the DE/DR module. The imported subjects should be included in the list of subjects and the new data will be included in the corresponding eForms.

All DCRs, SDV marks, notes and freeze/lock messages are always imported with a subject.

MACRO is compatible with the CDISC standard created by the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC). Subject data can be imported into MACRO in xml format.

DCRs, SDV marks, notes and freeze/lock messages are not included in CDISC exports/imports.

On import, the CDISC data file is converted into xml and imported into MACRO using functionality from the Batch Data Loading module. Example of the xml file for a set of subjects

If you are using remote data entry, please note that data transferred from a remote site cannot be imported into MACRO using these subject data import options. It must be instead imported using the Auto Import module.
