Importing data from a file

This function of the Batch Data Loading module allows you to import data into your database from a CSV or XML file. Typically, this file might be the output of another software application (for example, a database containing Laboratory Test results).

 

There is no defined upper limit to the size of file which can be imported in this way.

Before you import data

You must ensure that the data you wish to import is in the appropriate format.

To import data:

  1. Ensure that the study definition contains the corresponding data items for the data that you wish to import.

  2. Prepare the batch response file ensuring that you use the correct CSV or XML format.

  3. Ensure that the batch response data corresponds to existing subjects and/or create new subjects as required.

  4. From the File menu, select Import file of Batch Responses and select the format of your file.

  5. Browse to select the file you wish to upload.

  6. Click Open. The Progress field will show you how many subjects have been imported so far.

  7. When all the records in your selected file have been imported, the data will appear in the buffer. The Progress field will say "Import Complete".

  8. If your data has been imported successfully, the next step is to upload the data into your database.

  9. If the data cannot be imported, a message will be displayed explaining the problem. Help on messages...

Once the file has been imported, you can upload it to the MACRO database.
