A note is a simple piece of text, attached to an individual question. Depending on user permissions, notes can be created and viewed by both data entry users and by data reviewers, as a method of communication between them, or as a personal reminder to the creator. Notes should not be confused with comments which are typically used to make clinically significant comments on a question.
Notes do not appear in the question audit trail but note history can be viewed in the Notes browser.
Notes cannot be attached to eForms, visits or subjects.
Notes can be attached to questions that have been frozen or locked.
Notes can be edited by the user who created them but they cannot be deleted.
There are two types of note:
A public note is available for viewing by all users
A private note is only available for viewing by the user who created it
Questions with notes and comments attached to them are identified by the following icons in this order of priority:
