It is possible to copy questions, question groups and eForms into your study from the library. Many items are generic across studies and are stored in the library for this very purpose. Once copied, you can edit the question, group or eForm to your liking. Note that a library is associated with a particular database.
Note: It is not possible to copy items into the library from another study.
To copy items from the library, you need the 'Copy question from library study' permission
Open the question list for your study by clicking the Questions shortcut button.
Open the question list for the library by clicking the Library shortcut button.
In the library question list, select the item that you want to copy. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the item into the question list for your study.
Release the mouse button to drop the selected item into your study. The transfer of an eForm may take a while since it involves copying all questions attached to the eForm.
The item copied from the library will appear in the question list for your study. When you copy a single question, it is automatically placed in the 'Unused questions' folder.
When you copy items from the Library, sometimes the items will already exist in the current study. For example, when copying an eForm, you might already have an eForm of that name, or one or more of its questions or groups may already exist in your study.
If you try to copy an item which already exists in your current study, you will see a message asking which of the following actions you wish to take:
Overwrite existing question |
This will overwrite the question definition in your current study. You can select this option if, for example, you know the question definitions are identical. Remember that the incoming definition will replace all occurrences of the existing question on all your eForms. |
Rename question |
Select this option to enter a new code and so create a duplicate item. This will leave the existing item in your current study untouched. |
Skip question |
The question will not be copied, and will not be included on the eForm. This option is only available if you are copying an entire eForm. |
Overwrite all questions |
Select this option if you want to avoid seeing this message for every question during the copy. All question definitions will be overwritten. It is safe to do this if you know that the questions being copied are the same as those that already exist. This option is only available if you are copying an entire eForm. |
Open the eForm into which you want to copy the question by clicking the eForms shortcut button and selecting the relevant tab.
Follow steps 2 to 4 above, dragging the question directly onto the eForm instead of into the question list.
The question will appear on the eForm where you drop it.
It is also possible to copy items from another study into your current study.
Questions, question groups and eForms can all be duplicated within a single study.
It is also possible to copy an entire study definition within a database.
A set of eForms containing CDASH-compliant questions is provided in the CDASH Study Template.sdd file, located in the In Folder within the application folder. You need to import this study into your database and open it as another study before you can copy questions from it into your study definition.
