Editing an eForm definition

The eForm Definition window allows you to edit the properties of an eForm and the properties of the questions and question groups on the eForm.

Opening the window

eForm details can be viewed and edited at any time via the eForm Definition window. Click for help with opening the window.

On opening, only a section of the definition window is displayed. To view the whole window, click the More button within the window. Click it again to revert.

After entering the relevant details, click OK to close the window and save your changes, or click Cancel to close the window without saving.

The eForm details

The fields in the upper section of the eForm Definition window apply to the attributes of the eForm.

Code	This is the unique code of the eForm assigned when the eForm was created, and cannot be changed.
Title	This is a descriptive name for the eForm, sometimes also referred to as the eForm name or caption. You can edit the title by typing in this text field. Help on creating names...
Hide if inactive	When this box is ticked, a row for the eForm will only appear on the schedule in Data Entry if there is at least one active instance of the eForm. If all the instances of the eForm in every visit are inactive (greyed out), the eForm will not appear in the list of eForms on the left hand side of the schedule.
Automatic numbering	When this box is ticked, the questions on the eForm will be automatically numbered, usually in the order in which they appear on the eForm. You can change the ordering using the Renumber button, or moving questions up and down in the ordering.
Label	If you wish you may enter an Arezzo expression which specifies a label for the eForm. This expression will be evaluated during data entry, and will be displayed on the schedule underneath the eForm icon. Clicking the fx button will launch the Expression Builder to help you create your expression. If the information referenced in an eForm label or the expression itself is changed or deleted, the derived eForm label will be automatically updated. There is no length restriction in the display of eForm labels. So if you create a label that uses a response from a question which allows a long value, the entire value will display under the eForm name. This will expand the width of the visit which may cause the schedule to look untidy and become difficult to work with. The Arezzo Terms report in the Study Data Diagnostic Utility module can be used to list all eForm labels in a study definition.
Date	If you wish to have an eForm date, select the date/time question that you wish to represent your eForm date. Only questions of type date/time are shown in this list. The eForm date is displayed in the data entry schedule underneath the eForm icon.
Portrait	When this option is selected, the eForm will be of the default width, which usually takes up only part of the screen.
Landscape	When this option is selected, the eForm will be wider, allowing you to fit more items on horizontally. Depending on the size of your screen, you may see a horizontal scroll bar for the eForm.

The Questions and Groups

The fields in the lower section of the eForm Definition window apply to the questions and question groups on the eForm.

On the left hand side of the grid are the names and codes of the questions and groups on the eForm. If you do not have any question groups on the eForm, the Group order and Item type columns do not appear.

Field order	This represents the order in which questions will be answered on the eForm in data entry if the user tabs from question to question. You can change this order using the Move Up and Move Down buttons, although it is usually best to relate the ordering to the graphical positions of the questions on the eForm. Note that hidden questions have a field order of 0 (because they are not included in the tab order), and the eForm date question also has a field order of 0 (because it is displayed separately in the eForm header).
Group order	This only applies to group questions, and is the order in which the questions will be answered within the group in data entry if the user tabs from question to question. You cannot change the ordering of group questions here - you must edit the group definition to do this.
Name	This is the name of the question or group which you specified when you created the item.
Code	This is the unique code of the question or group which you specified when you created the item.
Item type	This shows whether the item is a question, a group, or a group question.
Move Up	To move a question or group up towards the beginning of the list, click on its row and click the Move Up button. Note that this gives the item a lower field order. You can't move an item up if it has a field order of 0, or if it is already at the top of the list, or if it is a group question. When moving a group, the whole group moves to a new position.
Move Down	To move a question or group down towards the end of the list, click on its row and click the Move Down button. Note that this gives the item a higher field order. You can't move an item down if it has a field order of 0, or if it is already at the end of the list, or if it is a group question. When moving a group, the whole group moves to a new position.
Renumber	Click this button to renumber all the questions and groups on the eForm according to their graphical positions on the eForm. Items will be ordered according to their top-to-bottom positions, and their left-to-right positions if their horizontal positions are the same. You can also renumber questions on the eForm itself.
